40th annual amta National Championship Tournament

The National Championship Tournament (NCT) is the final round of the American Mock Trial Association's (AMTA) annual national tournament structure. The NCT will host the top teams from each of AMTA's ORCS tournaments in April, with top teams divided into two divisions. The first-place teams from each will face off in AMTA's National Championship Final Round.

Case Western Reserve University Mock Trial is proud to host this year’s NCT at the Justice Center Courthouse in downtown Cleveland from April 4-6th.

JUDGE recruitment

To ensure the success of this prestigious competition featuring some of the best students in the country, we are seeking volunteers to serve as judges for our four rounds. Judges play a crucial role in the competition by scoring statements and examinations and making rulings on evidentiary issues. Judges will also be provided with complimentary breakfast and lunch.

You do not need trial experience to judge. Judges can be anyone who fits one of the following criteria:

  • Is a practicing or retired judge or attorney,

  • Has a JD,

  • A law student who has taken evidence, trial tactics or is on their law school mock trial team,

  • Teaches some form of trial advocacy at a law school,

  • Coaches mock trial (at highschool, college, or law school); OR

  • Competed in AMTA mock trial and has already graduated undergrad

Note: You do not have to judge every round of this competition – there are multiple rounds across this three-day tournament (Friday to Sunday), and we are happy to work with you to accommodate your schedule for that weekend! We appreciate any and all volunteers who serve for as much as they are willing and able to do.
